Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a therapeutic technique in which fine, single use, sterile, disposable needles are inserted into specific points on the body for the purpose of alleviating pain, relieving pressure on nerves, improving mobility and re-establishing normal function.

Our therapists provide acupuncture within the scope of practice of massage therapy.

Acupuncture in Massage

Acupuncture can be added within a Massage Therapy appointment when seeing Lori or Kristina.

Acupuncture can only be billed as Massage Therapy, and not as Acupuncture as a stand alone therapy.

Neurofunctional Acupuncture

Acupuncture modulates your neurological system, Because almost every dysfunction has some neurological component, acupuncture can get to the root of the problem.

With Neurofunctional Acupuncture needles are inserted and electrically stimulated at various frequencies to increase the therapeutic benefit.

It is non-painful and feels like a light “tapping” while the current is on. Once the needle is inserted you may experience an achy, but relaxed feeling.

Acupuncture can be used to treat acute injuries and chronic conditions including trigger points, muscle spasms, sprains and strains. We treat back and neck pain, overuse injuries, arthritis, fibromyalgia and everything in between.

Contemporary Medical Acupuncture

Both Lori and Kristina are trained in Contemporary Medical Acupuncture through McMaster University.

Contemporary Medical Acupuncture is mechanism-based, not disease-based. Therapeutic goals and treatment targets are selected based on the identified neurological dysfunctions contributing to the clinical presentation of the symptoms.

The therapeutic purpose Neurofunctional Acupuncture is modulating abnormal activity of the nervous system in pain syndromes and functional problems.
